Using Image Capture to export photos from my iPhone

I needed more memory on my iPhone 7s so I used image capture and followed the instructions on line as to how to export from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I thought I saw them after I imported them into Photos but now they are no where to be seen? Anyone have any ideas as to how to find them? I have already deleted a great many from my iPhone so those are gone? Thank you. The last post mentioned looking for an arrow in the left hand corner of Image Capture. I could not find an arrow.

You do not say what macOS version you use. But by default macOS 12 Image Capture imports to ~/Pictures i.e. to that folder in your home folder.
