Please help! I have seen this question asked many times with no resolution. Every time my child updates his apps or purchases a new app it asks him to put in is Apple ID password before it asks me for permission to buy to app. Why is this? I know it should not function this way (my other childrens phones work correctly) but how to I fix this??

Your description sounds as if 'Ask To Buy' is active on your child's device. This is a purchase approval process for parents.

See Apple's support document Approve what kids buy with Ask to Buy to see if this is indeed happening. If so, follow the instructions to turn it off.
