16 months old iPad Pro is worth 40% due to Apple.

I purchased an iPad Pro 11 256 2nd generation in April 2021 for $1015. The device worked like magic till today when it flashed a purple screen and died.

Went to Apple Service Centre where I was told that the device is dead and the solution is the AGAIN buy the same OLD SPEC hardware from Apple warehouse but after trade in AND paying additional $650.

I can buy the M1 instead of getting old one but should one still keep buying Apple devices if the customer support is dedicated to generate more and more revenue instead of helping us?

Unless you had an extended warranty with AppleCare, the iPad only has a 1-year limited warranty. You were offered an out of warranty replacement, which is at a reduced price from a new device. The replacement device has a 90-day warranty. You have the option to get the out of warranty replacement or to purchase a new one of your choice. You would not have to turn in the old iPad if you decide to purchase a new one, although the old one should be recycled. It is not about generating more revenue, it is that your device failed. I have an iPad Pro 11 from 2018 and it still works fine. Electronics can fail and that is what the warranty is for, as well as the extended AppleCare.

The life of the device is not one year. It just so happened that your device failed at 16 months. I don't really understand why you believe this is all a logic for you to learn a bitter lesson. If the device had failed while under warranty, it would have been replaced and you would have been happy about that, while still being frustrated that it failed. They are well designed, but sometimes fail, that is what the warranty is for. Now, what if your MBA fails now, would you be hesitant to purchase another one because you would have to purchase another Apple product?

So nice of you to respond. I should have known while spending $1000+ on a device that the life of a device was one year, or max another--if I had an extended warranty. I have a MacBook Air from early 2015 which still works. I wish this was really the LOGIC of future expenditures.

But, bitter lesson learnt. Pay money to Apple and then pay some more for rectifying earlier purchase.

Chris, you have asked an excellent question towards the end. If the MBA fails, I will certainly switch to the SLOWER PCs or notebooks instead of buying a device which is faster but will have no guarantee if it will survive.

Don't take me wrong, I am happy to pay the difference of the price but only if it is adjusted at a reasonable rate. Electronic devices can malfunction surely but valuing it at 30% surely looks reeks of inconsiderate operations. If given an option of less than 10-15% price during exchange, I can happily pay right now.

Apple cannot tell me that the device is only worth 30% value now! I am very happy with the products but the company should be also happily dealing with us instead of trying to generate more revenue--it sure looks like this Chris.

I'm to assume that you do not believe I'm a kind hearted person. What kind of help are you asking for? You mention not replacing the MBA, you say switching to a PC, good luck with that. You cannot get a guarantee they are going to last any more than you can get from Apple. You got a 1-year limited warranty and the device not only lasted that long, it exceeded it. You will not get a lifetime guarantee on any electronic device. Be realistic.

Am I to believe this is your only question since that is the only question I could see which is from your original post? If so, it is up to you whether you still keep buying Apple devices.

Hi Chris, in my second last post. I have stated that while an electronic device can malfunction, this same understanding should be shown by the Apple Exchange program as well. The new one, of the old spec, is still at $1100 but the price difference demanded from me is $600+! This is insane. As I said, if I can pay a lower price difference it makes sense.

I am not asking any help from anyone here to fund my device but from Apple to be reasonable in the exchange program since the device malfunctioned not because of and hardware damage.

Apple does not participate here. And we do not work for Apple. We are also not allowed to discuss Apple policies.

You may not agree with them, but unless you are able to get Apple to change their corporate policies, you have to accept their offers. However, that is between you and Apple and not appropriate in these tech support forums.

Good luck.
