Screen time passcode preventing factory reset

Hi

I am trying to reset an iPhone SE (1st gen) but have forgotten the screen time pass code. I have tried to reset this using the "forgot passcode" option on the iPhone but every time I enter the AppleId and pwd (which are correct!!), I get one more failed attempt and am now up to 9. I tried resetting by connecting the phone to my PC and holding down the power and home buttons but iTunes is not recognising the iPhone. All suggestions gratefully received!

These are the minimum requirements to reset the ScreenTime passcode:

  • The device must run iOS/iPadOS 13.4 or later;

AND

  • You must know the Apple ID & Password that were used to set up that ScreenTime Passcode.

If you meet both above requirements, these are the instructions:--> If you forgot your Screen Time passcode – Apple Support

Shouldn't be this case, you need to erase that device following these instructions (even if related to the passcode to lock/unlock device's screen):--> If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support

The bad news is that you cannot restore data from a backup, since the ScreenTime passcode would come back in.

Hi Giulio

thanks for getting back so quickly. I had tried both suggestions before posting and neither had worked but thought I would give them another go. The iPhone was running OS13.6 but following the instructions in the link again just caused another screentime passcode failure. I had another go at resetting via iTunes and that worked (finally)!
