iMovie strobe effect on iPad

Hi! I’m trying to make a strobing effect in sync with some music for a video using iMovie. Is there a way to achieve this effect? I am using version 3.0 (5515) on iPad 8th gen running iOS 15.6.1.

iPad, iPadOS 15

This forum is for iMovie for Mac. iMovie for iPad is a different application. You might want to post your question on the iMovie for iOS forum. Here's the link:

I don't know how it is done on iPad iMovie, but in iMovie for Mac one would put a 20 second black background in the time line and then overlay as a cutaway a succession of 0.1 second white background clips with fades on each side. When you play the project you would get a flashing strobe effect. Then export the project and import the exported movie into your main project and overlay it as a cutaway over your clips. Use the cutaway opacity slider to reduce the opacity to a little less than half. That would give you a strobe effect for your movie. You can vary the speed of the strobe clip as necessary to adjust the frequency of the flashes. You can save the strobe clip that you made for use in other projects as well.

As I said, I don't know whether iPad iMovie has similar capability. However, if you make the strobe clip in Mac iMovie I would think that you could import the strobe movie clip into iPad iMovie and overlay it as a cutaway with reduced opacity in order to get your strobe effect.
