There are a few slightly different Support articles which may apply

depending on what else you were doing; after your iPhone lost its

way. A passcode, if tried several times, locks you out of the phone.

• Set a passcode on iPhone - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/iphone/set-a-passcode-iph14a867ae/ios

The above has several very detailed items, while not spelled-out here.

Their 'blue links' show even more. Take time, & as needed, take notes.

• If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/en-us/HT204306

"Forgot your iPhone passcode? Learn how to get your iPhone

into recovery mode so you can erase it and set it up again."

"If you didn't back up your iPhone, you can set it up as a new

device and then download any data that you have in iCloud."

You likely could need use of a computer; a Mac or PC to continue

along this line and recover your iPhone; and use backup or iCloud

if there's no backup available. See link for more instructions.

(To try & forgo these matters, usually have passcode(s) written down

and hidden; sometimes I have cryptic/encoded messages, by me.)
