Are CD rips lossless when listening through Apple Music

I’ve been ripping some of my CDs to iTunes and listening to the rips through Apple Music on my iPhone.

I notice that 95% of my rips don’t have the lossless badge, and I know for a fact I ripped them in ALAC.

This brings me to my question. Are my cd rips lossless when listening to the rips through Apple Music, or is it AAC?

Unless music is a real passion or hobby of yours, one that you’ve willingly invested a considerable amount of time and money in; for example, I listen to music on a headphone system worth over $10,000US - the difference is noticeable. The truth is, the sound from a HiFi system like mine and a normal telephone & AirPods setup is like night and day. Both are extremely enjoyable but both offer very different experiences.

CD's ripped and uploaded get deleted. I have spent days ripping music from legitimate music CD's I own. I have uploaded them to my phone and twice now...in the last few months, Apple will remove them or make them "unavailable." How do they have the right to do this to my music I have paid for and own?

Music quality in iTunes match I ripped my cd’s a long time ago before Apple Lossless. If I turn iTunes Match back on, won’t it provide the older inferior aac to the files, rather than the newer lossless quality on Apple Music?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Make sure you have Lossless Audio enabled in the Settings of your iPhone: Listen to lossless music on iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

"Go to Settings > Music.
Tap Audio Quality, then tap Lossless Audio to turn it on or off.
Choose the audio quality for streaming and downloading audio.

Choose Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz.
Choose Hi-Res Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/192 kHz.

The audio quality of streamed music depends on song availability, network conditions, and the capability of connected headphones or speakers"

Keep in mind, that last sentence may also be playing a part in the quality of the stream.
