Microphone recording issues

Hey all. I am using a Electro-Voice ND76S Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphone going into a Yamaha MG12XU mixing board and connected to iMac vias USB recording with Logic Pro.

The interface shows and I have success with recording instruments, audio tracks, etc.

The one issue I am having is that with the EV microphone, I record a track but it just comes out as noise and beeps. - I also have a Shure SM-57 Microphone that I use for recording amplifiers and it also works fine. But this vocal mic seems to be giving me a headache

I plugged headphones into the mixing board and I hear the microphone working clearly. So it seems to be something with how Logic Pro is getting the signal from the mixing board... I tried number of inputs, on the board, board also has phantom power for the mic, etc. But I'm stuck.

Anyone had a similar problem/solution?

Much thanks for any help :-)

fortunately the mic did not get damaged (*phew*) - I tried the Shure on a track I had used previously for recording with the same negative result, that led me to the conclusion that it must be the USB driver for the mixing board... I shut everything down , board, iMac, etc. and brought it all back up and went back to the Audio track with input monitoring on and it worked fine ... looks like the driver was just not functioning well. THANK YOU for the heads up on the phantom power and possible damage to the dynamic microphone. I'll be sure NOT to do that in the future.

Ok, thank you I'll hook up the Shure - it worked well for recording the speaker cab so hopefully it will do OK for voice... then I'll switch it out for the EV. I will also double check my settings for other Audio Tracks where the Shure was used and try to duplicate them. I tried both using phantom power on the board and not using it .. in both cases it had been a nogo - thak much for the suggestion. Will try it tonight
