iPhone keyboard not working during phone calls, how to fix my iPhone keypad response?
Someone working at a restaurant Posted on Jul 30, 2018 11:55 AM this
question that I copied/pasted above. And today, Sep 2, 2022, I am
reaching out on the same question.
Please understand, I have a slightly different case, but I think exactly the same technical
problem.
I was answering a callback from Apple Support on a
totally different Subject, and I could not respond by clicking on the
"1" on my telephone keyboard (keypad). I could answer my
iPhone and hear the prerecorded message from Apple (Was I ready now),
and I wanted to respond with "1' on my keypad, but Apple
pre-recorded voice message came back and asked again, then paused
silently while I pressed "1" again, then another
pre-recorded message Apple could not hear any reply and my call was
dropped.
By the way, my unrelated question to the Apple
Support Chat person concerned help I needed to understand the
different items like AppleCash, ApplyPay, AppleCard and funds from an
Apple gift card I can use in the App Store. I was trying to
understand how I was paying for iCloud storage, and how that works.
This Chat person suggested the Voice option would be better for me.
I received the callback and could answer my iPhone. However, I was
prompted in the call to select "1" if I was ready now (or
some similar question). The Apple call could not see or hear that I
clicked "1" on my keypad nor could it hear me speak
"one".
After several tries, which required me to
get back to a Chat person, that person asked if I could use a
different phone, and I used my friend's iPhone for a callback. I had
no problem selecting "1", and then talking to an Apple
Support person who was able to kindly help me understand the methods
to Apple pay and how I could use my credits up from my Apple Gift
Card, and then it would take funds from another method I already had
authorized.

"Besides just doing a reset on the phone what have
you tried? I would try creating a current backup of the device and
then restoring this backup.
This Chat person responded
several times, and the last chat, I copied to my paragraph above.
I do not know if this solution of backing up my iPhone (which I can do)
and restoring it (which I am not sure I can do) will work. I
occasionally have had this issue on my iPhone during a call where my
response to a prompt was not heard, but other times, no problem.
Is there a known solution for this problem?
Also, could I benefit from visiting an Apple Genius Bar for help? I am a
senior and I have had 3 Apple iPhones and 2 iPads since 2012. So, I
have experience with Apple iPhones but now, not so easy for me.
