Google photos vs Safari photos

I used to be able to add a photo from Photos Library to an email. Now when I click on the photo icon I get Google Photos. I know I must have done something to effect the change, but I have no idea what. How do I revert back to Safari photos?

I think the issue here si when composing an email using Gmail through the Safari Browser.

If you click on the icon to insert a Photo you get a dialogue that doesn't show the thumbnails:

On the other hand, if you click on the paper clip icon you get the more usual attach dialogue, from where you can access your photo library:

What photo icon are you clicking on? Are you referring to an image file, Photos app or Photos library?

What do you mean by Safari Photos?

Are you trying to add a photo to an email or open it in Safari?

The article cited is for adding attachments to emails in Mail on Mac. My issue is adding attachments to emails in Gmail on Mac.

IMMSMW, in the past when I wanted to attach a photo from the PHOTOS LIBRARY to an email in Gmail, I would click on the INSERT PHOTO icon and be taken to the PHOTOS LIBRARY <----this is what I meant by "Safari photos."

Now when I click on the INSERT PHOTO icon I am taken to GOOGLE PHOTOS.

If I want to insert a photo from the PHOTOS LIBRARY I have to export it from the PHOTOS LIBRARY to downloads and click on the ATTACH FILES icon.

I want to be able to click on the INSERT PHOTO icon and be taken to the PHOTOS LIBRARY, not GOOGLE PHOTOS.

Is this possible?
