New iPad already slowing down!

Hi there :)

I recently bought a new iPad for school! I ordered the 2021 Apple 10.2 inch iPad with 64 GB off of amazon! At first it worked great and was absolutely awesome for my classes! My boyfriend and I headed to Europe for study abroad about a month ago, and right away I started noticing some problems with my iPad! It takes more than 24 hours to reach 100 percent charge, and seems to have slowed down. A lot of times I have to re start it, because it gets frozen on a certain app! I totally understand that technology ages and slows down, but was surprised its happening so soon considering its a newer model, and I just bought it! I was just bummed cause my broke college student pockets were hoping I could use this iPad for several years! Does anybody have any advice or recommendations!

Thanks a bunch! I really appreciate your time!

Cheers,

Bryce

Are you using an Apple Power Adapter - or a third-party alternative? Not all third-party Power Adapters are suitable for use with Apple devices - as they may use proprietary charging standards.

All Apple USB Power Adapters are designed for use with AC-power sources rated to provide 100VAC to 240VAC at 50Hz to 60Hz. Apple iPad USB power adapters also comply with the IEC/UL 60950-1 and IEC/UL 62368-1 standards for use with power sources rated to provide 115VAC at 400Hz (typically found onboard commercial airlines). As such, an Apple Power Adapter will work just as well in the US (~110V @60Hz) as it will in Europe/UK (220-240V @50Hz).

While a US-sourced (?) Power Adapter will be fully usable when travelling internationally, you may require a simple pin-adapter to allow the Power Adapter to be used with AC power outlets in different countries. For example, a US flat 2-pin connector will require an adapter for the standard European round 2-pin socket or UK 3-pin socket. Travel adapters are readily available.

Troubleshooting generally requires substitution of the Power Adapter and cable for another known-good item. Most models of iPad require a Power Adapter rated at 12W or greater to reliably charge. 5W Power Adapters intended for older models of iPhone are inadequate to charge an iPad; if the iPad charges at all, charging will be very slow.

Be aware that many computer USB ports cannot source sufficient power to charge an iPad. Unless explicitly designed for charging connected devices, computer USB ports are typically limited to 0.5-1A @5V (i.e., 2.5-5.0W).

If you continue to experience difficulties when using an appropriate Power Adapter of 12W or greater, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad, Power Adapter and cable(s):

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

As for your issues of poor performance, more details will be need. However, you mention having purchased an iPad with only 64GB of internal storage - this, by modern standards, is really not very much and can be easily filled. The Operating System and cached data will typically consume 10-15GB - before considering any documents, data and photos that you will likely save on your device. If you are close to filling your available storage, your iPad will become quite slow. You can check your available storage from iPad settings:

Settings > General > iPad Storage

hi there;

sorry to hear about your issues- yip its can be very frustrating ! I am always traveling ; often in Europe at least one week a month.... Here are some of the tips<having that same issue on that same model you got>;

a) if you in a country with 240V - please make sure that you have a REAL APPLE CHARGER<not some cheap substitute- as those often not to apple's 'charging specs'>

b)Also - try not to use those often commonly used 110v to 240v "charging adapter" PLUG-IN kits. Yes those 'adaptors" make it possible to use the std USA charger-block in e.g. UK etc, but those adapters often - most of these adaptors dont easily convert the usa-110v+50HTZ to Uk's =240v+60HTZ very "cleanly".... thus those ELONGATED CHARGING TIMES

c) This one tip still works for me>> @ home screen -HOLD DOWN the POWER BUTTON - and continue to hold - way past time u see that slide button to turn off - and continue holding down until u see the HOME SCREEN AGAIN.

d) do full SHUTDOWN of the iPad, and leave off for at least 5min before powering it on.

hope these tips help, and good luck

How much free, internal data storage capacity is left inside of your 64 GBs iPad model?

All of that additional info can be found in the Settings app, General settings panel, About.

A 64 GBs storage iPad starts out with approx. 60 GBs, after initial internal flash drive formatting.

Minus approx. 6 GBs for iOS/iPadOS leaves between 53-54 GBs.

Minus 3-6 GBs, for iOS/iPadOS system operational reserve, that MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES, to ensure/insure normal, expected operation of iOS/iPad OS, leaves approx. between 48-50 GBs of actual, usable data storage space.
