Apple TV and Vizio TV / sound bar interoperability Issues

How to make Apple TV on/off control work reliably with Vizio TV and sound bar?

I have latest 4K Apple TV with Silver remote. Vizio TV is 70 inch 4K

Vizio TV V705-H13

Vizio Sound bar SB36512-F6 Dolby ATMOS

When I power on the Apple TV using the power button on the remote, the TV and Sound bar will both come on and work correctly. But often, The sound bar does not come on. When this happens I cannot control the sound bar with the sound bar remote either. If I remove power to the sound bar for 15 seconds and plug back in. Then the sound bar comes on and works fine. The sound is very nice with ATMOS movies. Recently I plugged an internet cable into the sound bar. Now the sound bar has to be unplugged every time I power on via the Apple TV.

This is clearly either a bug or a feature of the sound bar.

Advice?

Hi RickLedford,

Since having the latest software installed can help with overall performance, make sure your Apple TV is on the latest tvOS version: Update your Apple TV - Apple Support

Update Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD

1. Go to Settings > System > Software Updates and select Update Software.

2. If there's an update, select Download and Install.

3. Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don't disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

After the update downloads, your Apple TV will restart, prepare the update, then install it. When the update is complete, your Apple TV will automatically restart again.

It's also a good idea to contact Vizio and the manufacturer of your sound bar to see if there are any available firmware updates for those devices.
