iPhone13 mini and MacBook Pro 2010

I am trying to USB-sync an iPhone 13 Mini to a 2010 MacBook Pro 13 (running High Sierra) to transfer some of my music to this phone. However, iTunes does not notice the iPhone being connected. I know the cable is good as the phone begins charging right away. iTunes, on the other hand, remains totally unaware of it.

Has anyone here tried this and make it work?
