k: error message

I keep getting a message telling me to please insert disk into drive k: . Then my ipod keeps cycling and turning on and off. Every time it turns on I get the Do not disconnect screen. I also get a message that says drive k: is not available. In the meantime, my computer and my ipod are frozen. Any suggestions? I can't sync my ipod when it's doing this.
