Payment Method Disappears When Upgrading Storage

When I try to upgrade my iCloud storage plan, my default payment suddenly disappears from payment methods. Step by step:

1) I go to upgrade plan, double click side button to buy, and it says my payment method declined.

2) I hit continue to update/add payment. Even though I have added my debit card (which is from an accepted major bank in my region) to my wallet and verified it, it does not show in my methods of payment specifically on this screen. It only shows my $0 Apple Cash balance.

3) If I attempt to add via debit/credit the same debit card that is already in my wallet on any other screen and set to my default payment (though for some reason not showing up here), it gives me an error saying this card has already been added to your wallet. Again, though, on this screen it does not show as a payment option.

4) I go back to my payment methods in my appleID and there is an error listed under my debit card now saying I need to verify or update my payment method to avoid disruption of subscriptions, etc.

5) I will click “Done”, it “updates”, and the error is gone.

6) I then proceed to try to upgrade plan again, and the same steps 1-5 repeat. My card doesn’t show up as a payment method, it cannot be added because “it’s already been added”, and when I go back to appleID payment methods, the error is back again listed below my card.

I’ve turned my phone on and off again, opened and closed all of these apps, removed the debit card and added it again entirely. It keeps happening. The card is not expired, all my subscriptions for my current iCloud Storage plan, Apple Music, and AppleCare all successfully were charged to this debit via my wallet/default payment being set this past month, so it still works.

What’s going on?

To verify your payment information:

Sign in to your Apple ID account page and edit / update your Apple ID details.

https://appleid.apple.com

On the Sidebar click Payment methods -> then tap Payments Methods and tap Manage payment method.

Or -> Change, add or remove Apple ID payment methods

Change, add or remove Apple ID payment methods – Apple Support (UK)

  • Add first the new card, then remove the old one.

If you update your payment method or add funds to your Apple ID balance, It would take about 1 to 3 business days in order to process.

If you're still unable to update your payment method, Contact Apple Support.

Right, so the reason that payment being declined pop up kept happening was because my default card as my debit wasn’t showing up anymore and it tried to charge my $0 Apple Cash balance.

No, I only have one AppleID

Thank you for the catch on my address and for you trying to figure out this issue!

That's strange.

See this Apple article: Upgrade to iCloud+ -> Upgrade to iCloud+ - Apple Support

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage or iCloud Storage.
  2. Tap Buy More Storage or Change Storage Plan.

Your first screenshot:

Tap Continue and sign in to view billing information.

There is something wrong with your payment method that is linked to your Apple ID.

A question: do you use / have multiple Apple ID?

Do not place any personal information on your screenshot (billing address).

I have asked the host to remove your screenshot.

If you read my original post all the way through, I am using the correct steps to upgrade my plan. The payment method just continues to “disappear” while I do it. It will be active beforehand and set as default, and after the issue I will go and fix it/verify it/make it default again. But during the attempted upgrade and transaction charge, again, it stops working

When the default payment “disappears” I go to add it again in that same payment screen and this a what happens. It clearly isn’t showing in my available payment methods but it says it’s already been added. 🤷🏼‍♀️
