Spontaneous Spam

Using a MacBook PRO, on OS 12.5.1.


Recently MAIL has started tagging many, many messages as SPAM. Even messages from known users in my Contacts and Mail lists. I've turned off the spam filters on Apple's Mail app as well as those at my provider's server.


Did Apple do something recently that caused this kind of a reaction? Or am I missing some setting that will correct the problem?
