Apples iOS update 15.6.1 solved this issue. I'm posting this in hopes that others will see a fix when the update is installed.
FWIW, I tried all the proposed fixes in various threads on this topic, to no avail, and even had Honda update the firmware on my 2018 CR-V EXL.

Thanks very much for this very useful reference, SravanKrA. It's very thoughtful of you to respond. The iOS 15.7 update fixed my issue of CarPlay Music crashing. I had to upgrade to iOS 16 to use my Apple Watch 8, so it will be interesting to see if there's any issues with CarPlay in our 2018 Honda CR-V.
If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
