Greetings tomeburg,

That's a great question! We see you came from the related article: Find your keys, wallet, and more with AirTag

From the description, it sounds as though you're walking through the steps listed below to play a sound, and completed the steps outlined in the section "If you don't see your AirTag in Find My" when you're not hearing a sound. If you've completed those steps and are still unable to play a sound to locate your AirTag, make sure your iPhone or other Bluetooth device is range of your AirTag and try again.

  1. "Open the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then tap the Items tab.
  2. Choose the AirTag you want to play a sound in the Items list.
  3. Tap Play Sound .1 If your AirTag is within Bluetooth range, it will play a sound.
  4. To stop playing this sound before it ends automatically, tap Stop Sound."

If you continue to have issues with AirTag after those steps, you may need to remove and re-add the AirTag using the steps listed below.

  1. "Tap Items at the bottom of the screen, then tap the item you want to remove.
  2. Bring the item near your iPhone. If the item is not near your device, you can still remove it from your account. However, the item must be reset before anyone can register it to their Apple ID.
  3. Tap Remove Item, then follow the onscreen instructions."
