Be sure you cancel the subscription; just removing the app does not cancel the subscription. If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support.
There are a number of wearable pedometers that integrate with the iPhone, and that don’t require a subscription. Fitbit makes several, and there are many others.
