Trade in / pre order

ive preordered the new iPhone and selected my xs max as a trade in.

when confirming the order it said once I receive the trade in kit I have to return it with my old phone within 14 days.

it’s the phone I’m using and pre order for me isn’t going to be until late October - will the kit come now or when the pre-order ships?
