Setup Hue Bridge with wifi only

I bought a Hue Bridge, but in my apartment I only have Wifi access (and no access to the router). I set my iMac to share the wifi network with it's Ethernet connection, and the Bridge now shows three green lights. However, I still can't see the bridge with the Hue app on my phone. I'm guessing the traffic from the ethernet connection is not routing to the shared wifi network? How can I get this working?
