while using smart cards, Mac does not allow more than 8 characters in pin

Also: maybe it’s a display thing? I have seen interfaces where the input box seems to have space for four characters but you can still type the whole pin (though I never used one that was longer than six).

Not much information to work with. What smart cards? How are they connected to your mac? Did you previously have cards with longer pin? In what OS?
