How do I know if my iPhone has a U1 chip?
iPhone XS, iOS 15
Hi, the U1 chip is available on the iPhone 11,12,13 and 14 models. Here is a support document with the counties that Ultra Wideband isn't available. Ultra Wideband availability – Apple Support (UK)
Okay, thank you. I’m asking because I’m the Apple store on my phone, it gives you a list of items for your devices. The AirTag was listed as a compatible device for my iPhone XS. I read elsewhere that the AirTag has to be used with a U1 chip. That’s the reason for my confusion and question.
AirTag will work with your iPhone XS, but as Chattanooga rightly says it will lack the spacial awareness and graphical interface the U1 chip offers. I have an AirTag in my car and using it with the find my app it works quiet well.
The iPhone XS does not have the U1 chip
Thanks for the reply. lol if you could just give me a yes or no to my question, that would be most helpful! Im not sure which number my XS is considered…
10S
The X is the Roman numeral for 10.
regardless, the other poster gave you a list of devices with the chip.
You’re device clearly isn’t on it.
Makes sense.
Unfortunately, an X (10) will not perform the genuinely “gee whiz” azimuth/distance finding function of the newer phones w/ UWB.
This is the info I was looking for! Thanks a bunch, I appreciate you.
