Locked out of MacBook

I some how changed the system preferences in my login section to show user name as well as password. I can’t remember my user name. Now I can’t log in! Please help!

Refer to If you can't reset your Mac login password - Apple Support. Follow those instructions methodically.


I believe you may need to scroll down to If you're asked to select an admin user. That user name should appear. By default the "short user name" is the name you see at the login screen, without any spaces. Try that. If you don't succeed, proceed with the remaining instructions all the way through If you still can't reset your password, erase your Mac. Recovering from erasing the Mac will require restoring its Time Machine backup.
