Can no longer “share a note” in my Notes app

In my IPhone XR iOS 15.6.1 I can no longer Share a Note in my Notes App. Now when I click on the 3 dots at the top right, the “share this note” option isn’t even there. I can only “send a copy”, save to to file, print, etc. How can I get this feature back?

Hello barbrafromoverland park,

Was the note in question one that was shared to you or synced to your iPhone, or was it created by you there?

Also, if you're able, could you update to iOS 16? It includes new updates for Notes that do involve sharing, so we want to see if that helps. Here's how: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

Thanks!

barbrafromoverland,

Thanks for those details. If this was a note you created, the method to share notes has been updated in iOS 16 and we'll be happy to share the proper way to collaborate on the new software below:

If just looking to share a copy of a note, complete the following:

Share a copy of a note
1. Open the note you want to share.
2. Tap the Share button, choose Send Copy, then choose how to send your note.

If looking to share, or collaborate on a note or folder of notes:

Collaborate on a note or folder of notes using iCloud
You can share a note or folder of notes and collaborate with people who use iCloud. You set permissions for other collaborators (such as allowing them to edit notes, add attachments, and create subfolders), and all the collaborators can see everyone’s changes. Everyone you collaborate with must be signed in with their Apple ID and have Notes turned on in iCloud settings.

Note: You can’t collaborate on a locked note or on a folder with locked notes.
1. Do one of the following:
• In the notes list, swipe left on the note you want to share, then tap the Share Note button.
• Open the note you want to share, then tap the Share button.
• In the folder list, swipe left on the folder you want to share, then tap the Share Folder button.
• Open the folder you want to share, tap the Folder Actions button, then tap Share Folder.

2. Choose Collaborate.

3. To change the access and permissions, tap the share options below Collaborate. You can set any of the following:
• Allow access only to people you invite or to anyone with the link.
• Give collaborators permission to make changes or view only.
• Allow others to invite new collaborators (available only when collaborators have permission to make changes).

4. Choose how to send your invitation (for example, using Messages or Mail).

If you send the invitation in Messages, you get activity updates in the Messages conversation when someone makes changes in the shared note. Tap the updates to go to the shared note.

We hope this clears things up for you. For more details on sharing notes and collaborating, check out: Share notes and collaborate on iPhone - Apple Support

Take care!

It was a note that I created. I have updated my iPhone to iOS 16 and I still don’t have the option to share it at all. In my settings my “notes” default account is iCloud and not to my iPhone, but it appears the note was created on my iPhone. Does it need to be on my iCloud account to share? I now see a “collaborate” button at the top on come old iCloud notes.
