Apple magic keyboard suddenly laggy on typing

I've seen this Intermittent severe Magic Keyboard lag - Apple Community thread and have the same problem on my Mac Mini (M1). The Apple magic key board (with numberpad) several times per month suddenly starts lagging. I type a word and the letters come 1 per half-second. The only way to stop it from happening is to connect the charging-wire (even if battery is full) or restart the Mac. I'm guessing this is a bluetooth connection problem somehow.

I also use the apple mouse but it never gave me any problems. I don't have any other bluetooth devices installed.

Has anyone found a solution for this other than restarting the Mac?
