ios 16 update for ipad (6th Gen)

I have an ipad 6th GEN which all online sources indicate it is compatible for ios 16 , yet when updating it only goes to 15.7 why is this happening? and is there a workaround?

Apple states that iPad OS 16 will be released in October.

Thanks for info. I read that ipad OS 16.1 was in October and that now would be 16 but what’s another month of waiting…lol.
