Cant Transfer iPhone DCIM Folder/Photo content to Win11 HDD (3 different methods)

Unable to run Windows "Photo" to import iPhone DCIM info. Eventually Fails and displays "unknown error occurred".

[Apple help desk process tried today] USB connect the iPhone, Right click "Apple iPhone", Select Import Pictures and Videos". It starts out fine, but eventually fails and displays one of two error messages:

(1) "The requested value can not be determined" Which I can click "Try again" and it moves to another file name and fails on another.

(2) "Catastrophic Failure" Once this appears "Try again" moves to another that fails.

--------

[On my own - my observations]

I can't copy and paste large iPhone DCIM photo folder to my external HDD attached to my Win11 Desktop.

If total file capacity is of a small memory amount, it seems to copy fine.

Exceed somewhere about 60MB, either as the folder total, or copying

multiple files that accumulate memory somewhere over 60MB it fails. Doesn't paste everything.

I know in the range of 100MB the paste function drops some of the files during the copy & paste.

I am not sure exactly where the capacity "break" point starts to cause it to fail.

If I copy and paste multiple files within the DCIM folder,

in chucks of 60MB or less, I can manually accumulate all the files

contained in the original DCIM folder. When pasting the chunks manually to a

USB attached External Drive on my win11 desktop.

As a test, I moved multiple DCIM chucks (multiple files) to my desktop Win11 HDD (C) drive. Trying to copy the entire larger DCIM/iPhone folder they were in, would not work. Once I had all the

files accumulated in a new folder on my HDD (C). I as able to copy and paste the entire contents (all files at once) to an external USB attached HDD. Using a single copy and paste.

Not knowing why, it appears to me. As if the "copy to Clipboard" capacity is limited only

when attempting to copy from the iPhone DCIM folder ... that is

something in excess of 60MB? While this limitation does not occur with a Desktop HDD to External HDD copy and paste.

This iphone is attached via a USB. With the DCIM folders showing. Also the files within the folders if you open the folders.

I tried to increase the Virtual Memory on Win11, to 5000MB but it did not help.

Though I doubted that had any connections since HDD (C), to External HDD, copies and

pastes just fine.

While I can manually, and painfully, copy all my photo and video content over to my Win11. Which will consume lots of time. How would I then properly wipe all the photos off my iPhone?

I have to believe Apple support is not getting to the problem either. After a couple hours on with tech support a Ticket was issued. Waiting for a call back.

Anyone have things I can check, Sorry I am not the most computer savvy.

One approach you could take is to use the search tool in the DCIM folder. *.* should show all files. Sort by date created. Copy off in blocks, then delete old images you no longer want to keep on the phone. FWIW I copy off my photos into folders broken down by year and then month. E.g. 2022 and then 2022-09. Once you've copied off everything that is currently on the device you should be able to more easily copy off only the new images next time.
