Searching within Contact Notes

According the the Apple Site OS4 on the iPhone should be able to search in the notes fields of Contact, Calendars, etc. http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/search.html

I have tried to get my 3GS to do this, have tried on the 4, and have been into the apple store to the Genius Bar and we're all in agreement that it won't do it in Contacts. We were able to get it to search the notes field in Calendars, but not on all phones.

Can someone help me figure out how to search the notes fields in Contacts on the iPhone?

Thanks for your help.

3GS, iOS 4, Hot glass looks like cold glass but they feel different.

Hey great news... a whole new version of the operating system v4.2.1... ah... and we still can't search contact notes on an ipad or iphone!

Works fine on my laptop and imac etc. but still not working on iphone or ipad - what's the problem with Apple fixing it on the iphone and ipad?

This is very basic functionality that a lot of people i know working in medical, legal and contract IT areas especially who still use palms and blackberrys and other various crude phones for notes about all their contacts keeping pointing out as as an essential reason they still wont migrate to using an iphone.

Very interesting it would say that but not include functionality for this.

However, you all do know that when you sync your contacts to your Mac if you open Address Book you can search every possible field (including notes)? I just tried this personally and it worked.

Least we could have in this discussion is somebody an apple offical explaining why this basic feature is still non-functional...

That is not the purpose of Apple Discussions and that will never happen. Employees do peruse the board but only for moderation purposes. You will never see an Apple Employee make a statement or offer an official explanation through this medium.

Best option would be to submit feedback ----> http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I don't post to these groups very often, but I was searching for an answer regarding searching within Contact Notes on the iPhone and came across your query.

FWIW, I downloaded an app called "ContactNotes" (no space between words) and it does searches on the notes field fairly well.

It is a separate app and automatically populates itself from the "Notes" field in your Contact file - for that matter, if you change a note in the app, it populates the Contact app as well... ie. it Synchs with current data in your iPhone Contacts list.

I downloaded it free in Dec '10, but I notice that it has since had a price increase to $1.19.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I was searching for a reason or fix for thisyself and went looking for an app. thought you might be interested in this one by WildFone: CONTACTS SUPER SEARCH - find anything in your contacts by searching all available fields!!! Very useful!

Does exactly what u are looking for, doesn't import contacts, just searches your currents. Also can edit from the search, best part I thought was that it's a free app.

Hope this helps :)
