SDXC maximum capacity MacBook Pro mid-2015 15 inch 11,4 Monterey

Dear all,

I bought a new MacBook M1 Max for my son, and now I am using his old MacBook Pro 15 inch Mid-2015 (11,4). It is running Mac OS Monterey.

I tried to insert a 1TB SD card of exFAT format (from a Windows 10 PC), into the card slot, but the MacBook Pro cannot recognize it. It can recognize another SD card of 64GB of exFAT format, though.

I would like to know what is the maximum capacity (in GB or in TB) of SDXC card supported by the card slot in my old MacBook Pro Mid-2015 (11,4), running Mac OS Monterey. I suppose it is a limitation of the SD card controller chip used on this MacBook model.

Regards

Alex

Well, according to Wiki, SDXC supports a maximum of 2TB capacity.

I would like to be very sure, before I spend money to buy a 1TB or 2TB SDXC card for use on this MacBook. My existing 1TB SDXC card is now used on Windows. I do not have a spare 1TB SDXC card for testing.

The Apple Support web site about SD and SDXC card does not explicitly states if there is a any hardware or software limitation on SDXC slot of the MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina Mid-2015 model (11,4).

You know, in the IT world, bad things do happen. I have another very old MacBook Pro Mid-2010 15 inch. Its CPU is Intel i7 which supports 16GB RAM. But for all the 2010 Models, only the 13" model supports 16GB RAM, and the others - depends on what OS you want to play with:

Good things happen too. I have a HP Elitebook 850G2 laptop computer. The specification says it only supports 16GB RAM, and I managed to upgrade it to 32GB RAM, with parts from CompuRAM, who tested and certified 32GB RAM kit on this HP laptop model.
