Canon N1220U Scanner in OSx

Canon N1220U Scanner in OSx

How do I get a Canon CanoScan N1220U working in OSx. I want to use as stand alone, not via Photoshop Plug-in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Maxon,

I believe the drivers for that scanner are only supported in classic mode.

You may want to get a new scanner or use VueScan, not free however.

If you look at Apple's scanner compatibility site and you will find the note:

Additional drivers will be available soon:
CanoScan D1230UF
CanoScan D2400UF
CanoScan N650U
CanoScan N656U
CanoScan N1220U

so maybe if you just wait a while you will be OK.

That will be nice Ranger, since I have one of the units collecting dust. The driver is only half of the Canon issue however, they also have their ToolBox app that runs in OS 9 also.

Well canoscan toolbox has been available for OS X for a couple of years now.

Hi again Barbara,

Sure am glad you keep an eye on me and clean up after me!

When I upgraded to Tiger, the only issues I had were with and HP photosmart printer and this scanner.
The printer was supported in Panther but not Tiger initially.

Are you sure that ToolBox is supported in Panther as well as Tiger?

Hi, joeuu. Yes, I have an n1240U that I have been using since 10.1.5 days. If I remember correctly, the first OS X driver for it (and to Canon's credit, they were about the first company to release OS X drivers for their existing hardware) worked only as a Photoshop plug-in, but for some time now you've needrd the Toolbox even to use the PS plug-in.

I'm not at all sure that standalone scanning is possible with my n1240U, but there has been a canoscan toolbox and a need to install it for quite a while now. EDIT Yes, I checked and it looks like you should be able to scan with just the toolbox. (Of course, this may be a different version than is needed for the n1220U.)
