will Docking (Clamshell mode) my Macbook pro destroy the display?

Can my MacBook's display destroyed if I put Clamshell Mode? I do a lot of video editing and I am thinking of getting an external motion for my mac but I afraid it might damage the screen. My macbook gets extremely hot when I edit so I don't know if it is a great idea. I was advised in the past by someone at genius bar that the screen can be damaged if I close it as soon as am done working and its still hot. I'm just trying to get a better understanding before making the purchase. Thank you all in advance!

Hello Twisties12,

We understand your concern with heat and the Mac.

Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures - Apple Support and review the quoted tips below:

Make sure that you’ve installed all Mac software updates.
Use your Mac notebook where the ambient temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C). Don’t leave your Mac notebook in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range. You should also use your Mac notebook where the relative humidity is between 0% and 95% (noncondensing).
Use your Mac notebook on a stable work surface that allows for good ventilation. Don’t use your Mac notebook in your bed, on a pillow, or under bedding.
Don’t put anything over the keyboard.
If your Mac notebook has ventilation openings, don't put anything into them.
Use only Apple-authorized power adapters.

As long as the Mac is on, the fans and cooling system will automatically manage temperature. This means while closing the Mac is okay, make sure it isn't powered down completely until cool.

We hope this helps.

Cheers.
