Magic Trackpad 2 not charging

Not a question... more something I wanted to share with anyone mystified as to why their Magic Trackpad 2 is not charging.

tl;dr: the Magic Trackpad 2 must be switched on before connecting to your computer and must remain switched on in order to charge. If you do switch it off while it's connected to your computer, and then switch it back on again, it will connect to your computer and work, but will not be charging!

This is not the case with the Magic Mouse, which charges regardless of the on/off switch.

Longer explanation

I bought a USB voltage/current tester to find out why my Magic Trackpad was not charging properly and discovered a few of things:

  1. The Magic Trackpad 2 draws absolutely no current when switched off, and therefore will not charge.
  2. If the Magic Trackpad is connected to your computer when switched off, moving the switch to "on" will not allow it to start charging. It will draw 0.02 to 0.04 amps for about 2 seconds, before resuming to 0A. It won't draw any current unless you disconnect and reconnect the USB cable while keeping the switch in the "on" position.
  3. If you've read posts on here claiming it only charges when it gets below 30% power... my tests show otherwise... it will charge at anything under 100%.
  4. When actually charging, it draws 0.14A.
