Deleting emails from the same sender

I want to clean up my iPad inbox, and decided best way was to search for all emails from a particular sender, (spam, a particular company etc ) then select all results from this search then press delete.

Unfortunately there is not function for this, and each email then has to be selected individually to create a list which can then be deleted. This is so clumsy and time consuming that it makes the task way too laborious and results in thousands of emails clogging up inboxes.

This seems unfortunate and begs the question as to why a seemingly intelligent company would not provide a simple facility to do this.

I don’t want to appear cynical but it would seem that many people could well end up paying for iCloud storage to provide sufficient space on their devices to handle the disadvantages of this very clumsy system.

The next question that arises is whether a company may see benefit in having access to information provided by a huge backlog of undeleted emails sitting on their servers.

Start by filtering your mailbox to show a list of email messages that you wish to delete:

Search for email in Mail on iPad - Apple Support

While some mailboxes do not have a Select All button, the message list can still be easily deleted in bulk with just a few extra gestures.

Tap the Edit button at top-right of the Mail sidebar; next, simply swipe your finger down (or up) the left-side of the message list to bulk select Mail Messages - sliding your finger just below (or above) the visible window to continue scrolling/selecting messages from the list.

When all messages have been selected, you can delete the selected messages; just tap the Bin (or Delete/Trash - this being dependent upon your region settings) button at bottom-right of the sidebar.

Thank for your prompt reply.

I have no difficulty navigating the filters for my inbox, i.e. by unread messages, messages with attachments and selecting a specific folder or all folders. I also have no problems searching my inbox or outbox according to sender, date or other search information specific to the contents of an email or thread. The difficulty that presents itself is that once the OS has generated a list pertaining to my search, I then have to select each item individually, before hitting the ‘delete all’ option. What would be really, really helpful is for an option to ‘select all’ once the list from the search is generated so I can delete all as one function, without having to laboriously select each email item individually before deleting en masse.

I can understand there may be advantages in reducing the possibility of someone deleting emails they may want to keep on record by not providing this function, but this could easily be averted by inserting a warning before the operation is to be completed. I can only assume it be an oversight or there are other issues involved.

I love working on my iPad and over the years have completed many useful and sophisticated tasks, including downloading and converting files for 3d printing for anatomical study.

What I would also really like to be able to do is clean out my inbox of spam and promotional material, while retaining important email records intact.

regards

Chris
