Apple Watch update

I’m getting a message when I try to update my Apple 5 watch that says I have to update my iPhone software first. I just updated it to 15.7 so it’s up to date. I shut down both devices and opened them again but still get the same message.  They are both on Wifi next to each other.  It must have to do with the updated 15.7.
