Locked mac

I went to use my Mac and it is locked out I do not remember my old Apple ID and put in the code incorrectly to many times. Will this erase my Mac book and restart it as new or is it permantly locked forever?

If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support describes what to do, including options If you can't reset your Mac login password. Exhaust all those steps.
