I am trying to add an Outlook account to my ipad

Here is what I have tried:

I went to Settings, then Mail, looked for "accounts" but I do not see it listed as a choice.

I then tried clicking on "Passwords and Accounts" and I did see "Accounts" and under that "Add Account". I clicked on "add account" and I saw several choices such as "iCloud, Exchange,Google, Yahoo,AOL,Outlook.com". I clicked "Outlook.com" and a pop-up read "Outlook Account, Unable to verify account information". Nothing further happens.

What do I do now?

note: I already have my outlook email account set up on my iphone. I would like to have it on my ipad also. There should be an easy way for me to do this but I do not know how to make it happen.

iPad mini, iOS 12

In common with many other Mail providers, Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail accounts now use App Specific Passwords to access IMAP or POP3 mailboxes.

The Mail App on each of your devices, such as your iPad, requires a unique password to be generated from within the Microsoft account. To do so, you’ll need to sign-in to your Microsoft account from a we-browser. Note that the system generated App Specific password will intentionally differ from your Microsoft account password - and can only be used to access your Microsoft mail.

The next step is to contact Microsoft or look at their support site.
