Google Drive background usage: iOS 16

Ever since I updated my iPhone 12 to iOS 16, google drive has started popping up in my background battery use. It’s listed as background activity under battery stats. I have ensured to update the app to its latest patch, yet this seems to make little to no difference. For instance, it has taken up 4 hrs of background usage yesterday. Any suggestions to make this go away? Thanks a lot!

Troubleshooting Google Drive and IOS 16 Update:

A. Start with a Restart:

Restart your iPhone, and then see if this works.

B. Reset the Home Screen Layout:

If widgets are not working as they should or have gone missing somehow, then you need to reset the Home Screen Layout...

Go Here: Move and Organize Apps on iPhone - Apple Support

You'd have to add back all the widgets that you can recall being back on there. So, write down what is currently on the Home Screen.

Scroll to: Reset the Home Screen and Apps to their Original Layout

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: General
  3. Tap: Reset
  4. Tap: Reset Home Screen Layout
  5. Then... Add the apps back

C. Reinstall Google Drive:

Remove Google Drive, and then redownload it from the App Store, or directly from Google.

D. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this post.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
