"Unsupported note" macOS Monterey 12.6

This problem is happening because of a new feature on iOS 16 that let you use device passcode instead of separated passcode. This feature seems to be available only on iPhones and that’s why it’s causing issues on other devices. The best solution is to go back to the way it was which is by going to your iPhone settings - Notes - Password - choose (use custom password) and follow on screen instructions.

I tried this fix and it is not working for me (not exactly anyway). I can only unlock my notes on my iPhone (iOS 16) and they are all Unsupported on either my iPads (iPad OS 15.7) or Mac (12.6).

What did work was to go through and remove the lock, then re-lock on a different (not iOS 16) device.

Adding in case this helps anyone that has it get a bit weird.

That should not be the fix. iOS 16 locked notes should be viewable on macOS running latest software Monterey 12.6. The error message even says upgrade your macOS. Your solution is a work around, but is Apple aware of this issue and looking at a fix?

For what it's worth when I updated my note settings on iOS16 to use device passcode, it even said my one Mac would not support the feature (its 2014) and my other Mac will after a software update, which i've now done - but still does not work.

The fix is not in iOS 15.7 nor in macOS 12.6; in the current versions.

Apple has indicated iPadOS 16.1 is arriving in October.

Falling back and locking using the older scheme will work, yes.

Once you do this if you open 1 locked note ALL your locked notes open and if it is on your laptop even if you exit out the app and go back in your notes will still be unlocked.. you have to physically go in and press lock all locked notes. Which to me is stupid it should be how the phone is unlock the note you are actually looking at and lock if you leave the page.

I totally agree with tatpy it's not very secure that all locked notes are opened once you unlock one - surely it should set to only the note you are accessing? This happens regardless of which password unlock method you use.

May be need an new software update.

I know… I’m a little disappointed in apple. Also, I’m disappointed that there isn’t any media players that can be downloaded from the Apple Store.
