Badges don’t work on iMessage after ios16
After iOS 16 no badges on text messages. My alert sounds but going to messages you can’t tell who messaged you without going through each thread.

Hey Overit79,
There were some big changes in iOS 16, including the way badges show for Notifications: Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
-When enabled, on the Lock Screen, they'll show at the bottom
-You still change how they appear from: Settings > Notifications, and you can choose to see them displayed as a count, stack, or list.
-If you want to show previews on the Lock Screen, you can change that setting.
-This is also where you can scroll down to Messages and make sure you still see your preferred settings for Notifications.
If everything appears to be set up correctly, but Notification badges still don't appear for just that app, reach out to Apple Support for further assistance: Contact - Official Apple Support
Take care.
