Contacts has a mind of its own

I have what is, perhaps, a unique situation. On my desktop of my MacBook Air I use Contacts and Mail to send correspondence, some of which is through iCloud, but I also use Zoho Mail and Proton Mail. On my Android phone I only use Zoho and Proton. And to sync my contacts on my phone I use Sync for iCloud Contacts. It's an inelegant work around because I don't want to use Google. But what happens is that Contacts randomly changes names of contacts and gives me duplicates as well, even after I try to merge them.

Any advice as to how to get around this? Thanks.

Hi marcynewman,

This article has helpful information about setting up and using iCloud Contacts: Set up and use iCloud Contacts - Apple Support

If you need more help, reply with the answers to these questions:

  • Are name changes happening on your Mac, Android phone, or both?
  • When you check the iCloud site are your contacts correct there?

If you've only noticed this issue with the third-party mail accounts, the best step would be to contact them for additional guidance.

Best regards.

Thanks for the reply. That initial link doesn't help - I do have my Contacts on my MacBook Air set up to sync with iCloud. But the problem arises because I use an Android phone, but not Google contacts so I have a 3rd party app called Sync for iCloud Contacts. On my Mac those Google-related (from my Android phone) contacts duplicate the iCloud ones and it's annoying. I'd like them to be merged. But every time I do that manually, it gets undone.
