All links on Safari, when clicked gets saved in the Reading list

As the title says, clicks on links in Safari are saved to the reading list, but not opened.

System: Monterey, current version.

Safari: current

Mac Studio 2022

The problem occurs after waking up from sleep mode, if Safari was open when sleep mode started. After waking up, Safari does not open links, but saves them to the reading list. In Safari's preferences, the feature is disabled (Preferences > Advanced > Automatically save articles for offline reading = disabled).

Quitting and restarting Safari does not fix the problem. The computer has to be restarted to fix the problem, which leads me to believe that it is not related to Safari, but to the OS.

The problem doesn't seem to be new either if you follow the discussions here, but Apple again doesn't seem to care.

Hey Mann,

If we understand correctly, Safari has trouble with opening links after the Mac is waking from sleep. One option would be to troubleshoot Safari not opening links.

"Check Safari extensions

If you installed any Safari extensions, make sure that they are up to date.

You can also try turning extensions off. From the menu bar in Safari, choose Safari > Preferences. Click Extensions, then deselect the checkbox for each extension to turn it off. Learn more about Safari extensions. "

To isolate the potential cause, you can also boot using safe mode, put the Mac to sleep and see if the issue with Safari persists. Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up.
