Mid-2014 Macbook Pro keeps restarting

Hello, community!

My Mid-2014 Macbook Pro keeps restarting itself after I updated to Big Sur 11.7.

This situation occurs randomly when I'm using with no hint, quite annoying...

Have run Apple diagnostics, no issues found.

-

But somehow I found if I unplugged thunderbolt to ethernet dongle, it works well.

Is that even possible this dongle messed-up whole computer?

Full report in additional text.

Best,

River

Hello rivery.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. When facing issues with your Mac unexpectedly restarting, we recommend that you review the following resource for steps you can try. These steps might be able to help you and also explain why disconnecting your accessory might help: If your Mac restarted because of a problem - Apple Support

For peripherals, it suggests these steps:

1.) Shut down your Mac.
2.) Disconnect all peripheral devices, such as hard drives or printers. If you have a desktop Mac, make sure that only a display, keyboard, and mouse or trackpad are connected.
3.) Turn on your Mac.
4.) Use your Mac for the amount of time that it would usually take for an unexpected restart to occur.
5.) If an unexpected restart occurs, follow the steps to check the internal RAM and third-party hardware.
6.) If an unexpected restart doesn't occur, turn off the Mac and connect one peripheral device at a time until an unexpected restart occurs.

It does sound like you've already isolated this issue to a specific accessory that is connected to your Mac. If you connected a different similar accessory, does your Mac continue to restart? If it doesn't and this issue only occurs with this one specific accessory, there might be an issue with the accessory. You might have to contact the manufacture of that accessory to see if there's any available firmware updates available for it. We hope this information is helpful. Cheers.
