How do I stop Books opening PDF on ipad?

I can't believe I'm asking such a basic question but sometimes iPads/iPhones try too hard to abstract absolutely everything. If I airdrop a file (any file) to an ipad then it should surely just drop to a local files folder. Which can then be easily shared or opened in any app I see fit.

Instead, it drops into my 'Book' app and I can't do anything with it. i can't attach it to a Teams message, or browse to it from 'files' or even send to OneDrive.

So, How can I stop Book from taking ownership of PDFs (or any other file for that matter),.

Unfortunately only 'Books' is displayed. I don't get anything like that menu you're displayed with. I don't necessarily want to open the file, I simply want to save it to 'Files', which looks to be an option in your menu, but this option isn't presented on my daughters iPad. There must be a way to do it.

Select a different App from the AirDrop menu.

When Airdropping files, the iPad should present you with a menu of App choices with which to open the files you are dropping, unless they are photos or videos. Those will just open directly in the Photos App.

Books may be the top one, but it should show other compatible apps with the AirDropped file.

Simply don't choose Books to open the file with and choose something else.

Do you have any restrictions in place?

Is the iPad Managed by her School?

The Files app should appear in that menu, unless it's restricted in some way by the Schools device management software or some parental restrictions software.
