iOS iMovie has started uploading videos out of chronological order

I've been vlogging only using my phone for several years. Recently, (in 2022) the short clips I upload into iMovie are out of order. I have a simple workflow, I shoot videos on my iPhone 13pro, I open a new project in iMovie on the phone, I "Select" all the videos from each day I want as they are organized in iMovie, (sometimes only 1 day), and then click "Create Movie." In the new project, some of the videos are uploaded out of order! If I'm doing several days, some days are ok, some aren't. It's always within each day's videos, that is to say, that if i upload several days of videos, the days aren't out of order, just the videos within individual days (and, of course NOT EVERY DAY, just some of them). It's pretty tedious re-sorting them.

I thought that maybe it's because I'll sometimes remove photos from a day after I Select and before I Create, but I tried that and the result was the same (out of order). I just tested this while creating this post.

Is there a setting that I'm missing? Did the default change to file size instead of chronological, and can I change it, if so? Please help, I do this twice a week and it's frustrating, especially because for two years this wasn't an issue, it started this spring.

Hey there babyshots_dpt,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, are you adding photos and videos to your iMovie Project using the steps shown here: Add photos and videos from the Photos app to your iMovie project - Apple Support

Add photos and videos on an iPhone or iPad
When you create a new iMovie project, you're prompted to add content from the Photos app photo library. You can also add content from the photo library after you've created your project:

1. With your iMovie project open, scroll the timeline so the playhead (the white vertical line) appears where you want to add the image or video clip.
2. Tap the Add Media button , then tap the location where the photo or video is stored. For example, if the photo or video is in the photo library of the Photos app, tap Moments, Video, Photos, or Albums.
3. Tap the photo or video you want to add, then tap the Add to Project button .
4. If you added a photo, it appears for 3 to 6 seconds in the timeline of your project, depending on the length of the transitions before and after the photo. You can trim the photo in the timeline so it appears for a shorter or longer amount of time in your video.

If so, does restarting your iPhone seem to help with the issue, even if it's just temporary? If unsure, give that a try with the next steps below: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, or 13
1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

While restarting may seem like a simple step, it can often help with resolving some unexpected issues like this.

If still running into issues, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly from this link here: Get Support - Apple

We hope that's able to help.

Best regards.
