I lost some messages or texts


The iMessages may or may not be backed up...

Look in Settings, [your name], iCloud.

If “Messages” was turned ON in Settings, [your name], iCloud then no you cannot retrieve them. They re not backed up.

If “Messages” was turned OFF in Settings, [your name], iCloud then you can restore the  backup you took before the text thread was lost, and of course lose everything else since that date. You need to erase all content and settings first.

If you took a backup after you lost the texts they will not be on the backup
