is anyone having trouble with the apple remote controlling the TV volume?

What is your model remote? Identify your Apple TV remote - Apple Support

It is second generation remote. The remote works for everything except volume control and mute on the tv. I already rebooted both and reconnected the remote. I also tried having Apple TV identify the volume control manually but so far nothing works
