If you have set the iPad Find My settings to do so, the iPad will attempt to send its last known location to Apple’s back-end servers immediately before shutting down to protect the iPad battery:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > Find My > Find My iPad >

  • Find My iPad - set to ON
  • Send Last Location - set to ON

The Last Location can only be sent to Apple’s servers if the iPad has an active WiFi or Cellular network connection when the iPad attempts to send its location.

Additional information can be found here:

Use the Find My app to locate a lost or stolen device – Apple Support

If the Find My iPad feature was enabled prior to it being “misplaced”, then if active, you would stand a good chance of locating it.

However, if the feature was not activated prior to being misplaced - or the iPad had no network connection or has been inactive for more than 24 hours, the last known location will not be available - and the opportunity to use technical means to recover/locate the iPad may have been lost.
