Why are the new metrics from Watch OS9 not visible for my recent outdoor run?

I did a 2 mile run recently and in the iPhone Fitness app, after selecting Show More next to Workout Details and then Reorder, I see that Stride Length, Power, Vertical Oscillation, and Ground Contact Time are grayed out. Why would this be?

Hello Stinyo789,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. To get started, let's try to reset your Apple Watch and paired iPhone:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Restart your Apple Watch – Apple Support (AU)

If the issue persists, unpair, and re-pair your Apple Watch would be the next step. However, before you do, we recommend ensuring your Apple Watch is backed up as shown here: Back up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Once you have a backup, check out our page for unpairing here: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

When you re-pair your device, test dictation as you normally would. Let us know if the behavior changes.

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

I have the exact same problem on my apple watch ultra. The metrics are blank in the watch during an outdoor run and are grayed out in the fitness app on the phone. I have done a reset, unpaired and paired the watch again.

Spent an hour with Apple support and one of their reps mentioned that the engineers are aware of this issue. They have collected logs from my devices and are supposed to get back with the next steps this week. I'll update this thread once I hear from them but it does not seem to be an isolated issue.

Apple support said they could not reach me today but the problem has been resolved. Not sure what fixed it though.

There was a watch is update this morning which could’ve fixed it. I also switched back to the original ocean strap on the ultra. I was using the sport loop from the 7 series. Went for a run today and it’s all showing.

I also switched a couple of phones over the weekend but this would’ve helped when I initially unpaired and paired the watch again.

Hello again. I was using an Apple Watch Series 4 but my new SE 2nd Gen came on Monday. I also updated to WatchOS 9.1 and iOS 16.1 on Monday. I ran yesterday and got all of the new running metrics. I’m not sure if it’s the new watch, the WatchOS update, or the iOS update, or all of them together, but as of now it works for me.

Why are the new metrics from Watch OS9 not visible for my recent outdoor run?
