I completely agree. I am sitting here and accidentally hit delete and report as junk for a text and I don’t even remember who it was from and am now concerned future messages will be considered junk and I won’t receive them. That is not my goal as it was a mistake.

This does not work. When I click "Show Recently Deleted" it only displays texts that were deleted, it does not display texts that were also reported as junk. Therefore, it is useless for this purpose. This is a horrible thing to surprise users with on an update and not have an easy undo button. There should be a warning "are you sure you want to report spam," but there is no 2nd chance or easy way (if there is any way at all) to undo a mistake. This is infuriating! I use my cell phone in my business, and I inadvertently marked a message from a VERY IMPORTANT as junk.

The problem with recovering deleted messages is that it just shows phone numbers and not the associated name or messages. I just accidentally reported an Instacart message as junk. I have no idea what number it’s associated with. This has happened multiple times already with other companies like FedEx or Amazon that send important messages. The name in those cases is FAR more important than the number.

This new feature is TERRIBLY EXECUTED. The delete/junk link is right beside the regular delete link and has no confirmation, so it’s very easy to click it accidentally. The rickety, uninformative undo features are no good except for the narrow use case of a person with a number that you know by heart. I venture to say this is the distinct minority of messages these days. Fix it. Please.

Hi Irishlady2,

We'd like to help you find the resolution for a message that you chose junk for. You can open messages and with the steps in Delete and recover messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support you can recover the message and if you choose to delete it, you then can choose delete if you wish and not report junk. The steps will be:

  1. In Messages, tap Edit.
  2. Tap Show Recently Deleted
  3. Choose the conversations with the messages you want to restore, then tap Recover.
  4. Tap Recover Message or Recover [Number] Messages.

We hope this helps you achieve what you were trying to find. Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

There should be more than one button to press before a conversation is reported as junk! And sent to Apple and Verizon! To me that seems like a huge violation of privacy to make it so easy to send on accident private family and friend messages to Apple and Verizon! We should have to agree through multiple step process to confirm we want our private messages forwarded to ANYONE!

This literally just happened to me & I came here looking for a solution. Number is automated from my doctor’s office, so it’s not in my contacts. SERIOUSLY, Apple? Please fix this.

Move the “Delete & report junk” option, fix this so reported messages can actually be recovered, & post improved instructions for recovering deleted/reported junk texts!

This works, but it's confusing. One of the messages I accidentally report as junk was a 2fa text confirmation from my bank. And so the identifier (who from) was not a person's name, but just a 5 digit code. In looking at the recently deleted list, I'm not sure what sender it was, of the 7 recent senders who all had 5 digit codes instead of names.

They really need a confirmation dialogue for the delete and report as junk option (NOT the delete function!). Or to place that dialogue in a better location, away from the simple delete option.

Undo a reported text message that was selected as “delete and report junk” because new messages from that individual do not beep now.

When you want to delete a text message, if that user is in the contact list, Apple should not display delete and report junk as an option. I deleted several texts that I’ve no longer wanted anymore but selected delete and report junk by accident not realizing the new option with IOS 16.1 and now I no longer here the beep when I get a new text message from an individual that are in my contact list. But messages from people who are not in my contacts list still beep with many recent text messaging for voting. Apple did not get this correct. And I’ve tried everything and I cannot get message beeping to work for the people in my contacts list that I deleted and reported as junk by mistake. The upgrade to 16.1 IOS and all my devices is the worst upgrade I have ever had with no help from Apple of how to fix beeping for text message that was accidentally deleted and reported as junk by mistake for individuals in my contact list.
